I'm not sure why these points - the count of schools occupying those ranking ranges - were made. It's tautological, isn't it? [note, based on the article, they do not seem to be making the point that universities/national universities occupied those spots, rather than LACs]

I guess the point is that saying with so many ties, saying a school is top "X" can be a bit misleading. This year, there are NINE schools that are considered the five best in the nation!
