Our Euroleague recap starts in Slovenia, where Union Olimpija defeated Polish team Asseco Prokom 70-62 behind 23 points from Danny Green. Alonzo Gee had 13 points and 7 rebounds in the loss as the NBA players faced off while ex-Houston player Oliver Lafayette added 12 points. In Italy, Montepaschi Siena blew out Turkish giants Galatasaray 103-77. Ex-Seton Hall Lithuanian player Rimantas Kaukenas led all scorers with 24 points and ex-New Orleans player Bo McCalebb had 19 points in the win. Ex-Syracuse player Preston Shumpert and ex-UCLA player Josh Shipp had 10 points apiece in the loss and Darius Songaila added 8 points. In Croatia, Sean May-less Zagreb were battered by CSKA Moscow 89-47. Infamous Gonzaga player Josh Heytvelt grabbed 7 boards without scoring in the loss and a balance effort for the victors included 15 points for Nenad Krstic, 14 points for Andrei Kirilenko, and 10 points for former DePaul player Sammy Mejia. In Spain, Caja Laboral edged out Greek team Olympiakos 81-79 getting 15 points from Kevin Seraphin as ex-UNC Greensboro player Kyle Hines had 14 points in the loss.

Jasmine Thomas and Frisco Sika made their Euroleague breakthrough with a win over Polish team Wisla Can-Pack Krakow. Jasmine had 11 points in 32 minutes in the 70-65 win as WNBA players Erin Phillips and Nicole Powell had 22 and 10 points respectively in the loss.

There was plenty of other Euroleague Women action Wednesday as Spartak Moscow defeated Croatian team Gospic behind 12 points apiece from Candace Dupree and Seimone Augustus and 8 points from Becky Hammon. Coach P’s former player Kalisha Keane had 5 points in the loss. In France, Spainish team Rivas Ecopolis beat hosts Lattes Montpellier 77-68 after getting 21 points and 11 rebounds from Asjha Jones and 10 points from Essence Carson to outdo ex-UC Santa Barbara player Kristen Mann’s 17 points. Polish team Polkowice defeated Italian outfit Beretta-Famila 68-65 behind former Virginia player Sharnee Zoll’s 21 points and 10 assists. Janel McCarville had 10 points in the loss and Cheryl Ford added 7 points and 9 rebounds. Spanish team Perfumerias Avenida had their full strength on display in a 78-70 win over French team Tarbes as Erika DeSouza came back to add 18 points and 10 rebounds to DeWanna Bonner’s 24 points. Turkish team Fenerbahce did not even need much from its WNBAers with a 91-60 win over Hungarian team Sopron. Penny Taylor had 18 points and Angel McCoughty contributed 17 points and 8 rebounds in the win as ex-Wyoming player Hanna Zavecz had 16 points in defeat. Russian team UMMC Ekaterinaburg drew on its full star power to blast Lithuanian team VICI Aistes 85-49. Candace Parker score 15 points after getting the start in her continued return from injury, Sandrine Gruda chipped in with 13 points, Cappie Pondexter added 10 points, and even Svetlana Abrosimova showed up with 11 points.

Also starting was the 2nd tier women’s competition, the Eurocup. I will provide less detailed recaps including only the prominent players. Ex-LSU and current San Antonio Silver Stars player Quianna Chaney had 18 points, former Oklahoma star Courtney Paris had 12 points and ex-Virginia star Monica Wright had 8 points in an 90-52 blowout win for Turkish team Botas over Portuguese team Lombos. Turkish team Besiktas defeated Belgian team Lotto Young Cats (nice name) 69-58 behind 21 points from Jantel Lavender and 10 points and 11 rebounds from Courtney Vandersloot. Also from Turkey, Optimum TED defeated French team Dexia Namur with 23 points from Matee Ajavon and 18 points and 10 rebounds from DeMya Walker. French team Hainaut defeated Lithuanians Lemminkainen 86-65. Spain’s Gran Canaria defeated Austrian team Flying Foxes (again with the names) 54-47. Ex-Wyoming player Aubrey Vandiver had 9 points in the win while the Big Ten connection of Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton and Kachine Alexander’s 18 points and 18 rebounds combined, was not enough. Russian team Dynamo Kursk defeated Belarussian team Olimpia 83-53 with Michelle Snow contributing 10 points and 11 rebounds.
