Amazing how a guy like Marty excels in the Euroleague but couldn't see the floor at Duke. Let's hope Jon can create the same kind of career for himself in Europe that Marty has, although Marty's play with the LTU National Team gives him a huge leg up. Was Marty's lack of PT at Duke all about defense?

And Shav has played well in Europe and even played for a while in the pros. But with the injuries and leaving early he never reached the level of play we thought he would. Let's hope all the ex-Dukies do well. GoDuke!

I have to think that Marty's injuries played a part in him not playing more and he still has had a couple of injuries in his pro career. He may not have been up to it defensively at Duke but he certainly learned it well enough to be the defense in some offense/defense substitution situations in Europe. It was actually his first pro season that got him into the Lithuanian national team and then he took that opportunity and ran with it. Here is a video of him and a preview to the main update:

Shav actually has never played in Europe. He played in Puerto Rico in 2011 (Spring to Fall League) and then went to China (Regular pro schedule).

A period of heavy midweek domestic action started with only one game on Tuesday as Chante Black and Shandong hosted Zhejiang. It was
another tough game as they fell 87-77. Chante had 11 points and 9 rebounds after playing the whole game as she lost her individual matchup with former Liberty and WNBA player Katie Feenstra, who had 22 points and 25 rebounds.

the win, ex-Texas A&M player Bryan Davis had 18 points and 13 rebounds, ex-Mercer player James Florence had 16 points and 7 assists,
and former Eastern Washington player Alvin Snow added 10 points.

Kyle Singler stayed in Europe for the season to play games like Wednesday's major rivalry game with FC Barcelona in front of nearly 13,000 fans in Madrid. Marty Pocius earned the start ahead of Kyle as Real Madrid jumped out in front in the 2nd quarter only to see their rivals from Catalonia fight back in the 3rd quarter to set up a nervy final period that had the hosts do enough to win 78-74. Marty had 10 points in 22 minutes as Kyle had a quiet 11 minutes while Jaycee Carroll gunned his way to 16 points to tie for the team lead. In the loss, ex-Cincinnati player Pete Mickeal had 14 points and Marcelo Huertas, who spent a year of high school in the United States, had 13 points and 7 assists. The result creates a five team logjam at the top of the standings between Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Unicaja Malaga, Caja Laboral Baskonia, and Kyle's old team, Alicante, which already has two more wins than last season with twenty games to play.

Those of you who check goduke.com will notice a bit of the article on Duke in the NBA about players playing elsewhere. Some of the statistics there are incorrect/incomplete. Shavlik Randolph's numbers are the only ones that are accurate. Daniel Ewing's appear to only include his games in the VTB United League and not Ukraine Superleague and Eurocup games. I have no real idea how the numbers for David McClure were calculated. DeMarcus Nelson's numbers are right for France but ignore his games in Ukraine. Marty Pocius's stats are for Euroleague games only and do not include his numbers in Spain's domestic league. Jon Scheyer's stats seem to only be for Adriatic League play and do not include Euroleague or Israeli league games. Kyle's numbers for Alicante are correct, but then with Real Madrid it switches to Euroleague games only and does not include his games in Spain with them. Basically, most of the numbers of games played are too low and the totals are going to be a little bit off.

There are 2 more ESPN3 games this week. On Wednesday at 11:00 am ET, Emporio Armani Milan is going to Russia to face UNICS Kazan. On Thursday, action shifts to Italy as Montepaschi Siena hosts Unicaja Malaga of Spain at 2:45 pm ET. There is usually some whiparound coverage in that timeslot.
