    Wells Fargo

Here in South Florida (Broward & Palm Beach Counties), I noticed that all Wachovia branches I have seen were rebranded over the past weekend and are now Wells Fargo. Apparently, no more Wachovia here.

    Did this happen anywhere else?

In Central Florida (Lake County) they were rebranded at least a year ago. AFAIK, they're being phased out entirely.

We were in Baltimore this weekend and the Wells Fargo signs were covered with Wachovia banners that were just waiting to be removed. Soon. We have been Wachovia customers for many years here in Raleigh and expect the change real soon, too.

Not related but it made me think of this:

    People:
O-ho the Wells Fargo Wagon is a-comin' down the street,
Oh please let it be for me!
O-ho the Wells Fargo Wagon is a-comin' down the street,
I wish, I wish I knew what it could be!

    First Voice:
I got a box of maple sugar on my birthday.

    Second Voice:
In March I got a gray mackinaw.

    Third Voice:
And once I got some grapefruit from Tampa.

    Fourth Voice:
Montgom'ry Ward sent me a bathtub and a cross-cut saw.

    People:
O-ho the Wells Fargo Wagon is a-comin' now
Is it a prepaid surprise or C.O.D.

    Fifth Voice:
    It could be curtains!

    Sixth Voice:
    Or dishes!

    Seventh Voice:
    Or a double boiler!

    Eighth Voice:
    Or it could be

    People:
    Yes, it could be
Yes, you're right it surely could be

    Eighth Voice:
    Somethin' special

    People:
    Somethin' very, very special now

    Eighth Voice:
    Just for me!

    People:
O-ho the Wells Fargo Wagon is a-comin' down the street.
Oh, don't let him pass my door!
    O-ho the Wells Fargo
Wagon is a-comin' down the street
I wish I knew what he was comin' for.

    Ninth Voice:
I got some salmon from Seattle last September.

    Tenth Voice:
And I expect a new rockin' chair.

    Eleventh Voice:
I hope I get my raisins from Fresno.

    Quartet:
The D.A.R. have sent a cannon for the courthouse square.

    Winthrop:
O-ho the Wellth Fargo Wagon ith a-comin' now,
I don't know how I can ever wait to thee.
It could be thumpin' for thumone who is
No relation but it could be thump'n thpethyul
    Just for me!

    People:
O-ho, you Wells Fargo Wagon keep a-comin'
    O-ho, you Wells Fargo
    Wagon, keep a-comin'.
O-ho you Wells Fargo Wagon, Don't you dare Mae a stop
    Until you stop for me!

Yes, Wachovia's been sending all sorts of announcements in the mail and online notifying everyone that the cutover / name-change/ re-branding will be done by August 8.

Thanks for the info. I was curious.

Maybe we can resurrect the TV series with Dale Robertson!

My Wachovia account transferred to Wachovia almost a year ago, as I had an Arizona address for a while and they converted the branches there long before Florida. I can't say it's been a smooth transition. Wachovia's online banking and bill pay were far superior, and more intuitive. I've been unhappy enough that although I've been a Wachovia customer for 25+ years, I'm considering changing banks.

As some know, Wachovia was the name given to the tract of land settled by the Moravians in what is now Forsyth County, NC, going back to 1752.

Here is some history, according to Wiki

I've heard that the North Carolina branches and related businesses will be the last to give up the Wachovia name and switch over to Well Fargo. Wachovia has had a proud name over many years, and especially in North Carolina. Kind of a sad passage.

That was part of the reason that First Union dropped their name when they bought Wachovia. Definitely odd that a conqueror would take the name of the conqueree.

As someone who helped build and test Wachovia's online banking system when it launched in ~2004, I smiled when I read this. Thanks for the compliment. . Selfishly, I wish that system had survived as well.

Yeah, one result was the sports/entertainment venue in Philadelphia known as the First Union Center changed to the Wachovia Center (now the Wells Fargo Center).

For those of us who have lived or spent time in Philadelphia, the F.U. Center just seemed like a more appropriate name.

My freshman roommate always said that with the bank in question, "You better watch-ova-ya money!"

I have had a Wells Fargo account since I was 16, when they bought out First Interstate Bank here in Oregon. My first summer job was an internship with them and I have always been happy with the way they handle my money (and our mortgage... and my wife's student loans before she paid them off).

    Devildeac,
I know what you were watching last night instead of doing CME or keeping up with PackPride!
I haven't had the stones to ask cousin Earl how he's taking the 'Great unc Unpleasantness' yet.

Ironic that it(deregulation and consolidation) all started not with a big New York or California bank but with sleepy NCNB that exploited the loophole in the law that prevented interstate banking and established a toe hold in Florida. First Union had to follow and the rest, as they say, is history.

Both institutions made bad poor acquisition decisions in their relentless competition and out grew their management's ability to integrate and operate effectively. Ultimately, they both made a fatal deal in the mortgage business at the peak of the bubble.

This will be my 3rd conversion in 12 years from CoreStates to First Union to Wachovia to Wells Fargo. I so liked CoreStates that I never closed the relationship in my 20 year journey around the country and the world. Frankly, almost anything will be better than F.U.(Wachovia). It had no clue.
