Odds to win 2012 NCAA Championship

From the Silver Legacy in Reno as of a couple days ago. Actual bettable odds.

    Unc +350 (7/2)
    Ky +500 (5/1)
    Ohio St +600 (6/1)
    Louisville 12/1
    Syracuse 15/1
    Duke 15/1
    Texas 20/1
    Mich St 20/1
    Pitt 22/1
    Memphis 25/1
    Ct 25/1
    Gonzaga 25/1
    Vandy 25/1
Florida 25/1 (wow, shoulda bet this, too bad I'm at the airport now)
    Michigan 28/1
    Kansas 30/1
    Ucla 30/1
Bucky, Berkeley, Baylor, Nova, You-Dub and Dubya-Vee-You all 40/1
    Zona 45/1
Everyone else 50/1 or longer. Butler is 90/1. Let me know if you want a specific team.

This confirms my suspicions the field next year is quite top-heavy, with unc a STRONG favorite.

For you gol... I mean Tiger Woods fans, he's 16/1 to win the US Open.

What were our odds going into the 2009/2010 season? We know the result though.

Kansas was definitely the favorite that year, somewhere around 5/1 going in. I think we were around 10/1. Going into last year we were the favorite at around 6/1. Most years you don't see the kind of separation I listed above.

I don't know that the field is that top-heavy. I agree that UK and UNC should be favorites and OSU not far behind. But, I don't see those teams as head and shoulders above everyone else. I believe they are all talented, but I don't think they are necessarily all that experienced and talented, as they are mostly underclassmen dominated teams. I would have liked Duke's chances going into last year, KU's chances going into the year before and UNC's chances going into 08-09 all better, as all those teams had some talented upperclassmen as well.
“Those two kids, they’re champions,” Krzyzewski said of his senior leaders. “They’re trying to teach the other kids how to become that, and it’s a long road to become that.”

Well, I do, especially that unc is the heavy favorite. (Try this: Whom do you fill out a Final 8 with?) We'll have to disagree here.

Final 8? Who knows, it could be VCU, Butler, Northern Iowa, Arizona, St. Mary's and Duke for all I know. I agree that UNC looks good, I just don't think they look as good right now as the top team heading into the last 3 seasons (or more) and don't feel they have a much better chance to win than UK, OSU, or to a lesser extent many others. I expect Duke to beat them in Cameron next year.
