Coaches who over and under perform in the Tourney

A link on under and over-performance of different coaches in the NCAA tourney. Coach K unsurprisingly measures very well.

Additional thoughts:

1.) The numbers are terribly unfair to Bob Knight and Dean Smith. Knight won two championships and went to another Final Four before the 64-team tourney era. Dean won a championship and went to 6 other Final Fours before 1986.

2.) This measure still seems to underrate K and Smith as they're both known for getting their teams to over-perform during the regular season. Izzo's teams seem to under-perform more often during the regular season, which would give him an advantage in this analysis. A study showing how much coaches over or under-perform in the regular season by comparing the preseason polls to rankings right before the tourney would be a great complement to this study.

3.) While this wasn't the focus of the study, the fact that K's teams AVERAGED a 2.2 seed over the past 25 years is astonishing.

That is just sick, especially considering no such thing as a zero seed exists.
