    Avatar question

I have an image that I would like to use as an avatar. What should I save it as and what program should I use to get it small enough (100 X 100) to be acceptable to use as an avatar. The first time I saved it using "Paint" the attributes said it was 512 X 368 and I haven't figured out how to get it smaller.

    Thanks.

One way to do this in Paint:

    Open file within Paint
    Go to Image --> Stretch/Skew
Enter 19 and 19 for horizontal and vertical propotions (this gets 512 pixels down below 100)
Go to File --> Save as and save as a jpeg under a different name

    one more possibility

I found this under the help topics in paint (Windows)

To change the size of your picture
On the Image menu, click Attributes.
Under Units, click the unit of measurement you want to use for the width and height.
Type the measurements in Width and Height.
    Notes

You can also resize your picture by dragging the image resize handles, located at the lower-right corner and along the bottom and right sides of your picture. (You might need to maximize the window to see the square resize handles.)
If your current picture is bigger than the new size, the picture is cut from the right side and bottom to fit within the smaller area. If your current picture is smaller than the new size, the extra area is filled with the selected background color.

Neither of these things do what Ozzie wants. These procedures do not resize the original image; they crop.

    Another possibility

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

Download and install the "Image Resizer."

It's a great, simple yet powerful, tool if you're running Windows XP. Vista incorporates this technology.

You can use Paint to crop the image to a square, then Image resizer will let you shrink it to exactly 100x100.
