This is going to be a tough schedule to get 6 wins. FIU is much better than most think, and Richmond has shown the ability to beat Duke. Duke has to go 3-1 non conference at worst in my opinion to feel strongly about getting to a bowl game in 2011.

Thanks for posting this. In other words, the ACC teams we don't play are NC State, Maryland, and Clemson.

I'm really excited to see Andrew Luck in person... sadly if we play defense like we did last season, it will be ridiculous, but I have high hopes of Cutcliffe's ablility to improve the D!

Path of Least Resistance in Bold. 4 of those happen to be home games, which is a good sign. Of course, lose one of those games, and you need to pick up one at home vs GT or on the road at UNC most likely.
<devildeac> anyone playing drinking games by now?
    7:49:36<Wander> drink every qb run?
7:49:38<loran16> umm, drink every time asack rushes?
7:49:38<wolfybeard> @devildeac: drink when Asack runs a keeper
7:49:39 PM<CB&B> any time zack runs, drink

I think 4 wins is likely and 5 wins is a very good year with this schedule and the talent on our roster. That being said, the ACC is breaking in a lot of new QBs, coaches, and coordinators this year, so the relative stability at Duke could result in an upset or two.

And who would have thought just a few short years ago that stability in Duke football would be an asset?

We should look for home wins against Richmond, Tulane, Wake Forest, and Georgia Tech (I see Ga Tech as a tough, but doable, task if our defensive speed can be complemented with better precision and execution)

Road wins are hard to come by, but I think at BC, at FIU, and at Virginia are possible. Wins home against FSU, VT, or Stanford or away at Miami would be big time upsets.

That's about it. Unless the NCAA crushes UNC this summer, they will be very, very good, at least on defense. I agree with the above posts that 5 wins would be a very successful year. Hopefully we remember that come football season.

I am really looking forward to the Stanford game. Stanford is definitely among my favorite college teams (in all sports), simply because I love to root for great academic schools that win with integrity and class (which Stanford undoubtedly does). Additionally, it's hard not to love a kid like luck, who turned down being the #1 overall pick in the draft for a chance to earn a college degree.

However, I hope he does have a bit of an off game September 10. A win in that game would be huge for Duke football and its fans, and, believe it or not, I actually believe we have somewhat of a shot. Stanford, unlike Alabama last year, is not a team that is simply in a different stratosphere physically and athletically that we are. If we play our best, we do have the ability to beat Stanford... but I'm, still not counting on it.

pbc, you are probably correct in you assessment and you are close enough to the football program to know. We'll still be weak on the defensive front unless some of our young players really step up. The ability to stop the run and put pressure on the qb will keep us from being bowl eligible imho. But we will get better under Cut. Go Duke!
