    Squarely on the bubble

Contrary to the remarks on the main page, "squarely on the bubble" is a perfectly normal term. It's used in carpentry circles when using a level (technically, it's called a "spirit level"). A carpenter's level uses a bubble of air to determine whether or not something is level. The item to be leveled is moved until it is "squarely on the bubble" -- or perfectly straight.

In NCAA terms, a team that is "squarely on the bubble" -- Google actually found several other articles using that term -- is neither comfortably in the tournament or uncomfortably out of it. Sounds like the right description for Va Tech.

It makes perfect sense to me, but I'm a very non-Euclidian kind of guy.
