    Need Recruiting Fix!!!!!!

What's the latest on our recruits (Murphy, Shabazz, Purvis , Parker, etc...), haven't heard a whole lot lately and was wondering if anyone in the know had any info that they'd like to share with the rest of us!

Supposedly, Shabazz enjoyed his weekend visit to UNC. He got several cheers during the game, and he watched UNC win its first game against a ranked opponent. He said something about he thought he could run for mayor there.

Purvis was agitated with UNC people by his twitter, but he doesn't have an offer, so we have two reasons to be happy with him.

That is all I have read (and I have no real inside info).

We are in very good position for all four of the guys you mentioned. Duke is recruiting very well right now.

Any of these guys likely to make decisions between now and next August? Or is this a waiting game for the fans?

I can honestly say I have no idea. I'd be a little surprised if any of these guys made a decision before the summer AAU circuit was over, and be very surprised if Bazz made a decision before the November signing period.

The Duke coaches are gearing up for several Holiday high school tournaments where they will see several players during December. After that, the picture will clear a tad more but don't expect but so much to happen during the season other than some visits from prospects to games. The biggest, best and most interesting tournament with concerns to Duke recruiting will the the City of Palms event in Florida.

    Gosh,

If only there was some other Duke-basketball related activity to take our minds off the lack of movement in recruiting.

Didn't they used to say about the ACC that there are really THREE ACC BB seasons... The regular season, the post-season and then recruiting season. Fortunately for us fans the recruiting one is a year-round event!

With Austin, QC, MG and MP3 I think we just "won" the most recent recruiting season!!

I'm with you. As important as recruiting is, I'm content to largely ignore it during the season and enjoy the games.

My IC premium board member said Shabazz and Purvis are dead serious about playing together and Roy aint going to offer Purvis. He went on to say Roy dont like it when kids challenge his coaching like Purvis supposedly did on twitter!

Shabazz, at 6'5", is either a nice size 2 or a short 3. Purvis, at 6'3", is a 2. Not saying there aren't good programs that would happily take both, but why would two kids that essentially play the same position make it a deal-breaker to go different places?

Could be true, but I have my doubts.

Based on what I've seen, they are very different players and easily could play together. I believe it was Jim Sumner or airowe who said Shabazz was being recruited as a 3. Purvis is a 2 now but I believe he is considered to be a combo guard in college.

Having said that, I too am skeptical that their being able to play together will be a dealbreaker. I know kids always say that they want to play with so and so, but when it comes down to it, each kid will do what is best for himself. Shabazz and Purvis have made it this far without playing with each other much and when it comes down to it, their playing together is unlikely to be dealbreaker no matter what they say right now. If they played for the same high school, AAU team or were related to each other I might feel differently. Just my personal thoughts on the matter.

Do you think it means anything that Shabazz has had 4 (I think) visits to UNC, including their Late Night with a C-rate coach (being generous), and said they helped their position with him? I am a bit nervous about that. I know the two want to play together, and Purvis is not a UNC guy, but is Shabazz trying to head that direction to you?

He's visited UNC 3 times to my knowledge. One of those times he went there the day after watching 82-50 from behind Duke's bench.

He'll visit us for the UVA game and the coaching staff has been doing an excellent job illustrating how much better Duke utilizes their wings and puts them in a better position to excel than our biggest competition in this race, UNC.

Still a long ways to go, but I definitely like our chances.

    Shabazz replied with -

    Phenom15balla - @QCook323 bro I'm really thinking about it !!!!

As is always the case with twitter, the info and statements aren't worth reading into too much but its nice to see Q giving some love to two of the top recruits for 2012

Thanks, as always, for the info Airowe.

That is what I love. We have guys who have the kind of character that people gravitate towards. Nolan has it. Quinn has it. Austin has it. You will also notice that our guys are pulling people into the program. Zeller didn't even work hard enough on his brother to convince him to play with him.

Nolan didn't recruit Quinn (according to Nolan AND Quinn). If I was Tyler I would want what's best for my brother, not necessarily my program. Therefore I'd let him make his own decision... which he appeared to do.

I don't think that's fair. I certainly wouldn't have felt any less of Miles or Mason if Marshall had decided he wanted to go somewhere else and not follow in the footsteps of his big brothers. I am delighted that he will be coming. Otherwise, I agree that Duke has recruited some very good people who make it more fun to cheer for the team.
“Those two kids, they’re champions,” Krzyzewski said of his senior leaders. “They’re trying to teach the other kids how to become that, and it’s a long road to become that.”

If fairness, Cody Zeller made his own decision about where he felt best and where he wanted to play. Tyler may have recruited him hard and it may not have made any difference. If Marshall Plumlee had decided to play for Wisconsin (as was strongly rumored a few months back) would that have meant that Mason and Miles did not care enough about Duke to bring him over?

That said, it is generally easier to sign a kid when you already have a positive connection with the family. That makes Roy losing out on Cody, to a school that has lately struggled to be relevant on the national stage, all the more mystifying.

Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?

That is kind of my point regarding their personality. I know Nolan didn't actively recruit Quinn, but seeing a guy he knew and respected so happy about where he was had the effect. I think just hanging out with Nolan around Duke would tip the scales because of his personality. The new guys actively doing it is new, but they do it with the same sort of charm that Nolan has. Remember that Austin's comment meant that much to Quinn, now Quinn is talking to the duo of Purvis and Shabazz.

I suppose, but the stories about the seperation between Tyler and the rest of the players gained credence in my mind the day that happened.
