    Knee surgery for Kelby Brown

    From Duke press release.

Duke head football coach David Cutcliffe announced on Sunday that freshman linebacker Kelby Brown will miss the season finale against North Carolina after suffering a knee injury in yesterday’s 30-20 loss to Georgia Tech.

A 6-2, 215-pound native of Charlotte, N.C., Brown played in nine contests this season, starting the last seven at middle linebacker. He suffered torn anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments and will undergo surgery at a later date with Dr. Claude T. Moorman III, Duke’s head team physician and the director of Duke Sports Medicine, handling the duties."

Kelby stepped up this year earlier than expected and put together an awesome season. This really stinks for him, but hopefully he comes back bigger and stronger next year. He's going to be a great linebacker for three more years.

That's just absolutely terrible. Torn ACL and MCL for the true freshman who was arguably our best defensive player and an incredibly promising prospect.

You just pray he can get back to where he was and not have this be a nagging, recurring issue like Robbie Hummel.

Such injuries are most unfortunate. There's never a good time for such an occurrence.

The one silver lining in this situation is that Dr. Moorman is The Man when it comes to this sort of surgical procedure; it's one of his specialties. I'm optimistic about Kelby's rehab and his future on the gridiron.

A tough end to a great freshman season. Kelby is definitely one of the building blocks for the future. I wish him a speedy recovery.

They knew the injury at the half and he was in good spirits and looking forward to next year already.

There is no all-freshman team for football. There is an offensive rookie of the year and a defensive rookie of the year.
