    Lies, etc.

Talk about a game where you can't draw many conclusions from the +/-. Looking at these stats, you'd say Coach K need to sit that guy Singler.

Still, I appreciate your posting them.

Looking at the member list information, it looks like Jumbo hasn't logged on since October 7th. Of course, maybe he has been viewing the website without being logged on. It's a mystery.

This observation is based on nothing more than my own recollection, but Jumbo is typically pretty absent from the boards during the offseason, and more involved during the season. I expect him to be back once the season starts.

I asked around and the word is Jumbo is swamped with work but hopefully joining the fun soon. Maybe we will get the Phase 0 thread before the Princeton game.

Meanwhile, thanks to Pfrduke for the +/- thread!

Before Princeton, we would need the Phase 1 report as 0 is the preseason, or at least was last year.
“Those two kids, they’re champions,” Krzyzewski said of his senior leaders. “They’re trying to teach the other kids how to become that, and it’s a long road to become that.”

Ok, that puts him on the hot seat then. I could not remember how many games Phase 0 covered last year. He has until Nov 4th to pop out Phase 0, then will have to turn around quickly and release Phase 1. We need to send SWAT to find him and get him in front of a computer in a hurry!

Thanks, I always enjoy looking at metrics.

I guess what surprised me the most is though Kyle had such a great game, his +/- was nowhere near the top, and he was only in one of the 4 best combinations.

None of the combos used more than twice was also a little surprising.

Kelly and Curry were in three of the best 4 , almost everybody else in 2 of 4, except Singler and Miles in 1 of the 4. Talk about balance.

When I rank ordered the top 5, also very even

10 for Irving was got 5 + 4 +1 by being in top 2 and the fifth best

    9 for Curry and Kelly with 4 + 3 + 2

    8 for Smith and Mason 5 + 3

    7 for Dawkins and Hairston 4 + 2 + 1

    6 for Singler and Miles 5 + 1

    5 for Thornton 3 + 2

That top 5 was never used as a combination Irving - Curry- Smith - Mason - Kelly, which is not all that surprsing given the number of permutations and combinations available, plus if you go "small" probably have Kyle at PF.

So again lots of positives, though could be different result versus a taller or better team.

Except of course what has perhaps been most debated throughout the offseason: Projected Starters.

It seems to put to rest any notion of Kyle starting at the 4 with K opting for the 3 guard starting line-up. What's interesting is that the top 2 overall contributors (Seth and Kelly (although tied with Miles)), both weren't members of the most effective overall unit on the floor.

    Talk about depth. Oh boyyy.

    The combinations used twice:

White team Starters Irving - Smith - Singler - Mason - Miles (+19)
variation with Curry in for Nolan (+2)
variation with Dre in for Nolan (-4)
cvariation with Thornton in for Nolan only once (+2)

Blue team subs Thornton - Curry - Dawkins - Hairston - Kelly (+8)
variation with Irving in for Thornton (+9)
variation with Smith in for Thornton (+3)

Two captains with Curry- Hairston and Kelly (zero)

Cnclusions are not surprising Irving best PG; Smith best SG; but Tyler was better backup PG than Nolan or maybe just more familiar with teaming with Blue team.

I liked that first sub on Kyrie running the B-team initially and then swapping Tyler in.

Did not see that winning combination from second half of CTC with Josh and Mason with Kyrie-Tyler-Seth/Casey, always either Kelly or Miles at center, and never all three frosh at same time.

I do not think that was a planned unit until Seth had the bleeding at CTC and could not move over to the White team as probably was the plan.
