    quick 3 point percentage question

After the 3 pointer moved back ( 9 inches?) what was the NCAA 3pt % made last year as opposed to the prior year?

    Thanks for the help here.

I am not as concerned with Duke specifically as that has more to do with a few individual players. I just want to know if the made percent went down for the NCAA as a whole.

If you have the , say, past 5 years I would appreciate it as that would give me an even better feel.

*Of Course, to be taken into account here, is that perhaps once moved back kids are taught to reign in the number of threes taken so I would be curious three too (more judicious). Were less taken last year than in the prior 4 or 5 years?

    2005 -- 34.73%
    2006 -- 34.94%
    2007 -- 35.04%
    2008 -- 35.23%
    2009 -- 34.40%

Change was made at end of 2007 season, so impact would seem to be negligible.

Number of attempts hasn't changed much, either. 2008 was the record year for number of attempts, but I'm not sure that's statistically significant (and it's certainly contrary to expectations).

    2005 -- 18.33 per game
    2006 -- 18.43
    2007 -- 18.89
    2008 -- 19.07
    2009 -- 18.33

If you're saying what I think you're saying, you're a bit mistaken - the rule change took effect only last season (it was passed in '07).
To me it looks like a clear, though obviously not dramatic, drop in both % and #, compared to a steady rise year after year previously.

I had this thought - last year was the first year of the new rule - Am I right in that "last year" on your chart is the 2009 season? IE, this season (so early still) is not yet on your listing?

If so, I agree with Crimson - we need more data years - but there is an impact.

Think of 1% less three pointers made if you take 600+ threes a year - that's about 20+ points less a year. Probably costs us one win at least?

Seems to me that Duke's opponents will also score about 20+ points less over the course of the season.
