Interesting article. I think the important thing is to be consistent, which is what the NBA is trying to do. It creates a problem when your rule book says one thing and you're telling the refs to ignore that particular rule but enforce the others. It'll be curious to see the trickle-down effect, if any, on the college game (at least in the books)

Seriously though, they should've cracked down on travelling, not allowed it. This is why i hate the NBA.

What else should the NBA change to reflect the reality of how its rules are enforced? I suppose it should clarify that carrying the ball while dribbling is allowed, at least if your name is Iverson. I don't watch enough NBA games to know the other unwritten rules, but I bet some of you do.

So NBA players will get used to taking two steps (maybe three) and then have to play in international competition, with a FIBA one step rule?

For what it's worth, the NBA ref who spear-headed this official rule change claims two steps are the de-facto standard everywhere at all levels of the sport. Depending on your perspective, NBA stars are either better able to stretch the limits of two steps, or NBA refs are better able to look the other way when they pass the limit, but at least according to this guy,two steps is the norm in all basketball leagues.
