Duke gets mention in news W.R.T. the human appendix...

Apparently, researchers at Duke think that the appendix really does have a use in the immune system, but that our industrialized society with clean drinking water and sewer systems has rendered it obsolete. Appendicitis is apparently caused, they say, by the appendix over reacting cause it doesn't have enough work to do any more.

I mean, it might be a new article, but the content I thought was a couple years old - where Duke researchers discover the appendix actually has a purpose after all.
