    Goodbye Vasquez?

    http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_r...lare-for-draft

odd timing for such an announcement if you ask me. Imagine if G said the same thing right now...

I don't find the timing odd at all. Williams opened up the locker room recently and a reporter asked him about the NBA. Based on what I've seen and heard, Vasquez is very open and doesn't play word games. He simply responded to the question. He is a junior and has nothing to lose by going through the process. For three years, Vasquez has left it on the floor for the Terps and I have no doubt that he will give it his all during the remaining games of his career.

I think it is better to declare your intentions early. Why strain your program with an up in the air attitude of will he/ won't he? He is being upfront and honest in his intentions. The question still remains of will he ultimately stay in or not, but that one would have been there regardless. I wouldn't mind a bit if G said the same thing tomorrow.

Vasquez was the brightest guy around. I guess the timing of the declaration is what's so stupid not that he's going to test the waters. Go Duke!

General Grevious...may the dark side be with you. I admit that I loved o hate this guy. Great player, didn't know when to shut up.

CB&B - You wouldnt mind if G delcared tomorrow? I have a big problem with that, especially when we have a shot at winning a few more games. MD on the other hand is pretty much done.

I wouldn't mind a bit. As I stated it answers one of two questions quickly, whether the player will declare or not. That leaves only the option of whether the player will stay in the draft unanswered. Some might think this would interfere with the team, I see it as the opposite, in that at least everyone knows exactly what the player's intentions are.

Do you really think that, with all the time these guys spend together, that the team does not have a good idea about where G stands on the draft? I would be surprised if it is such a well guarded secret within the fold. Just maintained outside the fold. Just my opinion.

True...the more I thought about it the more I can see your point. It would be nice at the end of the season to get all the depression out of the way in one fell swoop. The only objection I would have is the player obviously has their mind made up, and whatever time is spent on that decision could have been spent with the team and preparing for the next game. Also the possibility of trying to showcase one's skills to the detriment of the team, but that rarely is the case.

I see your point, but really don't want anyone to go...but if they did why not go ahead and get it out of the way (at least from a fans perspective)

Maybe it's just the changing times but the whole question of whether a player will declare just doesn't seem as big to me anymore.

Back in the day when it was still somewhat of a big deal to go pro early, it was something that I followed closely during the season and that I think was a big issue on the minds of players. Now, if you last till your junior year and are a star player, you almost feel as if the player is a senior in the sense that personally, I'm not that consumed with the decision. If it's a star sophomore, maybe I'll worry about it more but getting a senior year out of a player like G is just gravy and I'm not going to sit and obsess about it until I have nothing better to do after the season is over.

But my main point is that I just don't feel the team is sitting and even really thinking about what Gerald is going to do. Maybe that's just a credit to the staff, maybe I haven't been reading the articles where G has been asked 50 times but for whatever reason, there's really not a lot of attention on with G.

(Thinking back the last few years, we knew Boozer and JWill were gone, we all assumed Dunleavy was back a 4th year so didn't think about it, ditto for Deng. We definitely obsessed over McRoberts, and Shav prior to his freshmen year to an extent and Livingston. Redick and Shelden not as much)

My guess is that Henderson has not made a decision. If the most recent NBA draft forecasts, which predict that he would not be picked until #22 or so, are correct than I think he will come back to school. A great year next year he could vault into the top 5 picks. The difference from the bottom of the first round to a top 5 pick is somewhere around $10 million in the initial contract. It almost has to be a financial decision as to what he decides to do. I expect that he will declare, not sign with an agent, and test the water as to his status. I have no doubt that he would have a fantastic senior year (look back at the senior years of guys like Dawkins, Ferry, Laettner, Battier compared to their earlier years) so I hope this leads him to staying one more year!

Uh, most NBA mock drafts have him in the top 10, not #22.

I hope he comes back even though I can't stand the Terps. He is a great player to watch and I don't understand what he has done that has made him hated. He has always seemed pretty enterataining to me.

I was repeating what SupraDave said in a post : "On Espn Insider,

    1-Blake Griffin
    2-Ricky Rubio
3 - Greg Monroe (ouch, that hurts)
    22 - Henderson
28 - Patrick Patterson (ouch again)
    42 - Singler"

The point I was making was that I think he will base his decision on the information he gets from the leagure about where he will be in the draft and the difference in the contract if he stays a year and moves to the top.
