I recall when we were the cat's meow using IBM Mag Card Typewriters for word processing - in about 1974 or so.
And after I fed my little stack of cards through a professor would come in with three boxes of cards to be run. I would leave for several hours as I knew my program, complete with the stupid mistake in it, would come back. There was a reason I only took one computer class.
One of the April 1 Chronicles had a picture of a duck stuck in a mainframe with the caption - DUCC is down.

I have generally used AMD processors whenever possible because:
1) Except when its against "my" team, I like to root for the underdog
2) I dislike monopolies...and without AMD we would have one in processors.
With that said, if the underdog can't provide a competitive product you go with the near-monopolist who has a product that meets your needs.
