    My new shoes . . .

. . . are vintage P.F. Flyers. I got the "Number 5" style, not the Bob Cousy originals.

If you are over 45 years old (any younger and you won't know what the heck we're talking about) please choose from the following poll options:

Allen is now the coolest kid on the block.
My Converse Chuck Taylor's are cooler than Allen's PF Flyers.
My Pro-Keds are cooler than Allen's PFF Flyers.
They still make PF flyers? Where can I get a pair?

Yeah, but I just got a new pair of Flagg Flyers! They are really cooler than your PF Flyers.

"Flagg Flyers 2000. Remember those 50's men's dress shoes with the leather-covered metal snap that replaced laces and were popular for about three weeks? Reposition them as safety shoes: No More Dangerous Bending Over to Tie Laces."

I had a pair. They were cool then and they are cool now. The name alone makes them better than Converse.

Snorked my ice tea when I saw this. I was just telling my kids about P.F. Flyers last night...

Doesn't matter if you're cool or not. You can "run faster and jump higher."

I don't know what the heck you're talking about. But I do know Larry Bird got his own shoes. I think it's a little bit late, and the cartoon commercials make him look especially dated.

2535, given your avatar I would have guessed Converse for you...

In my neighborhood, there were only two choices for any self-respecting kid: Converse and Pro-Keds. PF Flyers were for preschoolers and 1st graders, and God have mercy on the poor kid that had to wear KMart knockoffs - he'd instantly be the butt of food stamp and welfare jokes.

Growing up, I liked both Converse and Keds and chose depending on which colors they had in the store. By the time I got serious about basketball around 6th/7th grade it was Converse all the way until Bird and Magic retired. I still wear canvas Chucks fairly frequently and have 3 or 4 pairs of different colors in the rotation. Where I coach, we try to wrap up every season with a parents vs. kids game or some other fun event, and I bust em out on the floor for that. The reaction from the kids is pretty funny: "Coach Turk, are you really gonna play in THOSE?!?" And then I give them a short sermon from the Gospel according to Chuck about their rightful place in basketball history.

P.S. TNT, didn't matter what brand it was, new shoes always made you run faster and jump higher!!

Obviously kids in your neighborhood never herad of Bob Cousy - 13 time all-star, NBA MVP, and named as one of the 50 best all-time players in the NBA - all in his PF flyers.

If I try to learn how to do two tech based things in one week my head will explode (I learned how to do a poll - I don't know how to post a picture, yet).

Her is a link to a place you can buy them.

I rooted for the Celtics and I knew who he was, but I didn't grow up with any Cousy fans - I'm not THAT old...

    Check out this pic:

What the heck is Russell wearing? Those look like KMarts!! Wilt's got the classic white Chucks (you've heard of Wilt, right? ), and looks like Havlicek (#17) has a pair of 2535's black low tops.

And I forgot about Dr. J - I seem to remember a commercial with him and the tag line "Converse All-Star basketball shoes - limousines for the feet." That cracked us up...

P.S. So how many others of the NBA 50 Greatest wore PF Flyers?
