    What's your favorite booze?

All this talk about tequila got me thinking... What's your favorite booze? How do you like to take it? I love vodka on the rocks with a wedge of lime. Sometimes I'll have vodka soda. I like Vox and Belvedere.

I'm staying with the basics, and leaving beer and wine off this poll because I think they're deserving over their own thread.

Ya know, I had to seriously think about this before I posted. I love Whisky and it comes in a close second, so close it's almost immeasurable.

Two years ago, my buddy Rob asked me and two other friends if we would split the honor of being his "Best Men" at his wedding. We gladly accepted and he toasted us with a bottle of Midleton Very Rare. Here's a picture of me contemplating the rest of my life and how I just don't think I'll ever get any happier than this moment.

It falls under whisky, although if you're going down that path, the only "true" response is bourbon.

I went with gin. I take it either with a little bit of tonic and lime or in a martini with a couple of olives--nice and simple.

Of course, good beer is my favorite, but that's another thread.

Beer may have its own thread, but it is still my drink of choice.

I intentionally left out Scotch to elicit the debate; Scotch vs. Whisky vs. Whiskey vs. Bourbon. I always understood that Scotch is short for Scotch Whisky so Scotch is a whisky, but it's not Whisky, Whiskey, or Bourbon.

Rye (Canadian whisky...think Crown Royal for those who are unfamiliar with rye).

I prefer Gibson's Sterling which is a nice 25 year old. Smooth as silk. Heck, it's noon here so I think it is time for a belt.

Vodka. I like a good vodka even on the rocks. And it is the most hangover-resistant of the available choices.

Tequila (GOOD tequila only - must be 100% pure agave) is great to get hammered on.

For a liquer choice, try Cuarenta y Tres. Delicious!

Excellent scotch. I have a bottle of Glenfidditch, which is also very good. As far as whiskeys go, my favorites are Jack, Johnnie, Crown Royal & Jameson.

Vodka and whiskey in that order. Of the bourbons, I prefer Maker's Mark and Jim Beam Black, which are both smoother than J.D., IMO.

Jack Daniel's is not a Bourbon. Bourbon only comes from the bourbon region of Kentucky (much like Champagne only comes from the Champagne region of France). Jack Daniel's is a Tennessee Whiskey.

Actually, I meant smoother than Johnny Dawkins.

I can't believe I messed that one up. Every time I tell someone I'm from Lynchburg, they ask "Lynchburg, as in Jack Daniel's Lynchburg" and I have to say, "No, Lynchburg, as in Jerry Falwell's Lynchburg." Thanks for the correction.

This is actually a popular misconception. Bourbon must meet a list of federal requirements, but it need not be produced in Bourbon County. See 27 C.F.R. sec. 5.22(b)(2).

Tennessee whiskey (Jack Daniel's) is filtered through charcoal.

    I stand corrected. Thanks.
