Do you own an axe?

Yes, I do.

Now, don't "axe" me any more questions! :D

Technically, it's Mr. DA's axe, but I have ready access to it. :D

what I want to know is, who's chopped down a tree with their axe?

Out of curiosity, why is this a private poll? Is axe ownership something to keep to oneself? Is it like gun registration -- we don't want the government to know where all the axes are, in case they decide axe ownership is detrimental?

Good point. Meant to make it public.

Anyone have an axe in the backseat of their car?

Mine is an Ultra, and yes, it frequents the back seat of my car.

I have three axes and two hatchets. Well, one and a half hatchets.

I had one ax with a cheap fiberglass handle that vibrated the heck out of my hands when I used it, so I switched to a wood handled on that was great. Then this winter I was at my parents while my Dad was ill and used his super hollow-shaft high-tech ax to split wood for their woodstove. When my Dad passed away, I took the ax home. I should get rid of at least one of the old axes...

I have chopped down a couple of trees - a 2 ft diameter, 10 foot tall stump from a wind storm and I have als0 chopped down small trees - 8 inch -12 inch - at various points in my life. But really, the beauty of an ax is chopping wood on a cold morning, and burning that wood in the evening. It actually grows a beard on your face instantly, it is that manly. :p

My axe (and a couple of hackets) work well for some purposes. However, I find that my chainsaw and machete get more use -- unless I'm camping or splitting firewood.

Earljam, WHERE did this thread come from in your bizarre mind? (...which I enjoy daily)

I'm afraid to ask what you need an axe for in LA. :)

How about "Yes, I own an axe" but I'm not sure where it is.

I've got 2 axes, one of them a maul. I've also got a chainsaw that I bought after Fran*. I've used it twice since then, and hopefully never will again.

If you have to ask what (not who) Fran was, you don't live around here, or weren't here in September 1996

You should ask this on the PP board. They do nothing but grind them over there.

I use my axe in L.A. to split firewood here, and mostly at my late husband's family cabin in Twain Harte (the lower Sierras). Years ago during my NYC days, I relished the thought that I might be the only person in NYC who owned a chainsaw. (....used to fell trees in Nova Scotia). LOVE my chainsaw.

Yes, I own an axe and I have used it to chop down a tree. Please don't tell my neighbor it was me who did it!

Fantastic! A Mom in LA that splits her own firewood, and used to fell trees. You should extend this poll to your neighbors and see how many of them have an axe. I'm going to wager you're the only one! My favorite POTD.

I too have felled a tree with my axe. I have had the axe since my Boy Scout days. It goes with me wherever I move to.

I thought this thread was actually about guitars for a while.
In that case no - I don't own an axe.
Although I own 2 guitars.

... but, to cut down trees I use a machete.

As an anthropologist, I know how to make an Acheulian hand axe. Does a teaching cast of a hand axe count? :)

I have a maul.

My only axes are 6-strings.

Axe, maul, hatchet, chain saw. Have a downed tree in my yard that needs chopping. Sadly, my wife put in a gas fireplace so she could have a fire at the flip of a switch and now I can't burn the wood except outside. I hear it's a lot of fun to have a bonfire after a few beers.

Anybody need firewood?
