Marta'd to work today.
Bought CFC flood lamps for our house.
Both pay off fairly quickly.

Cheers,

Happy Earth day to you!
Happy Earth day to you!

Not sure how old the Earth is today, but in celebration, I burned a half-acre of Earth's natural "candles" - trees - to celebrate its big day.

HAPPY EARTH DAY, EARTH!

There are 610 Gigatons of carbon in the terrestrial vegetation.

Therefore there is 1.22x10^15 pounds of carbon in terrestrial vegetation.

If a match weighs 2 ounces, then there are 9.76x10^15 matches-worth of carbon in the world's vegetation.

If the earth is 4.5x10^9 years old, then you'd only need to burn 4.5x10^9 matches to celebrate its birth.
That would amount to burning 0.0000461% of the world's vegetation worth of matches to celebrate.

Which, assuming 116,000,000 sq. km of non-arid land globally, would be like burning 53 km^2 of vegetation. Which is just about burning half of the city of Durham.

So Earljam, If you burn down half of Durham today, you'll have a legitimate excuse.

Actually Chapel Hill is 51.3kmkm, so why not just burn down all of Chapel Hill? Also, what's with going from pounds to kilometers?

I drive a car that gets 12mpg; I have a desktop and a laptop, both of which will be running all day; I'm pretty sure one of our bathrooms leak; my wife is in the process of making a carbon producing monster; I use an elliptical machine at the gym instead of running outside. <-- horrible person. Though I do eat more beef than I really should, maybe I won't live as long... so I got that going for me, which is nice.
